For all process elements, an innovative simulation tool is used. Apart from good performance concerning key process elements, this simulation tool simultaneously analyses the whole process chain. The combination of the expertise of the Avasition GmbH and the powerful simulation tool allows for high-quality control designs, even for very complex power-electronic systems.
Customized trainings for your staff on all levels (basic to expert) are offered on request in cooperation with the Institute for Electrical Engineering and Power Electronics. The trainings cover all core topics of power electronics as well as methods relevant in the field of power-electronic applications; particularly in control theory and signal processing.

Unsere Projektpartner kommen aus dem kompletten Umfeld leistungselektronischer Anlagen. Diese können den folgenden Gruppen zugeordnet werden.
Ein zentraler Aspekt unserer Projekte ist häufig die detaillierte Modellierung und Regelung von Stromrichtern. An beiden Themenfeldern arbeiten wir seit unserer Gründung intensiv mit Stromrichter-Herstellern aus allen Spannungsebenen zusammen (Stromrichter für Nieder-, Mittel- und Hochspannung in öffentlichen Versorgungsnetzen, industriellen Netzen und Bahnstromsystemen).
Eine weitere wichtige Kundengruppe sind die Anlagenhersteller und -betreiber, wie z.B. Hersteller von Windkraftanlagen oder Lokomotiven, die die Stromrichter und deren Regelung häufig extern zukaufen. Für diese Kundengruppe ist häufig die Analyse und Bewertung des dynamischen Verhaltens der externen Stromrichter-Regelung und der Einfluss der Stromrichter auf die umliegenden Komponenten der Projektgegenstand.
Mit Betreibern der Verteil- und Übertragungsnetze untersuchen wir häufig den Einfluss der geregelten Stromrichter-Anlagen auf die Netzstabilität. Schwerpunkte sind die Bereiche der erneuerbaren Energien (z.B. Wind und Solar) sowie der DC-Übertragungsstrecken (HGÜ- bzw. HVDC-basiert).
Wir wollen uns ständig weiterentwickeln und suchen daher die Zusammenarbeit mit führenden Wissenschaftlern. Hierbei erstreckt sich die Zusammenarbeit von der gemeinsamen Begleitung von Systemstudien, über die Erstellung von Gutachten bis hin zur Entwicklung von ganzheitlichen Demonstratoren.
Avasition (referring the two independent companies ‘Avasition GmbH’ and ‘Avasition Software Solutions GmbH’) has been founded in 2010 and is located in Dortmund (Germany). Avasition offers customized engineering and process services and consulting in the scope of power-electronic systems including software development. Key markets are e.g. HVDC, renewable and transportation applications. Within the challenging projects, the self-developed software framework ‘VIAvento.SUITE’ featuring grid calculations, process automation and reporting has been well proven.
The partners and employees of Avasition studied electrical engineering at the Ruhr-University Bochum or at the TU Dortmund University (both Germany). Additionally, the three partners received Dr.-Ing. degrees in electrical engineering focussing on simulation and control design of converter-dominated grid systems and signal processing and partly performed studies in organizational management. The team is supported permanently by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Andreas Steimel (Ruhr-University Bochum). During their careers, in sum, the partners have registered 8 patens, published more than 130 peer-reviewed papers and have been giving several lectures and expert trainings on different topics.
The scope of projects amongst others includes
- Comprehensive studies covering large-scale onshore and offshore projects with HVAC and HVDC systems often including controlled medium- and high-voltage converters. Typically, system design and dimensioning, simulation-based quality and stability assessments or combinations are focussed aspects. Hereby, projects with different converter manufactures as well as with distribution and transmission system operators have been performed to the same extent (references on request).
- Control design for power-electronic converters especially for weak-grid connection situation (Avasition has patents in this field registered or granted) different applications (e.g. HVDC, renewables, railway).
- Process analysis including process identification and reviews
- Software implementations for validation-process elements like software-in-the-loop (SIL), hardware-in-the-loop (common HIL and more sophisticated concepts) and power-hardware-in-the-loop (PHIL) for drive-train emulation.
- Often, the self-developed software framework ‘VIAvento.SUITE’ (e.g. for loadflow, harmonics, dynamics, stability, code generation and reporting) and high-quality Avasition controls for relevant power-electronic assets in different applications are utilized.
Mission statement: The aim of our dynamic and flexible team is to support our customers with high-quality engineering and process consulting. For us beyond common approaches, physical modelling and lateral thinking are indispensable for optimal solutions.
Customers: The customers of the Avasition GmbH can be found in all areas of power-electronic applications: In automotive applications as well as in the field of permanent-magnet synchronous machine assessment reference projects have been completed. Recent projects are located in the field of modern power engineering. Especially, high-voltage DC-transmission systems with self-commutated power-electronic converters and analyses of complex power-electronic systems (e.g. wind parks and their grid integration) have to be mentioned here.
